Just across the Belgian border lies Het Zwin, a unique nature reserve where dunes, salt pans and expansive salt marshes come together. The area is known as ‘the international airport for birds’, as countless migratory birds stop here each year on their journey between northern and southern Europe.

Spot special birds in the wild

With a little luck, you may spot storks, cormorants, kestrels and many other bird species. Various walking and cycling routes, as well as viewpoints, allow you to enjoy the nature and observe the birds up close.

Wear boots or waterproof shoes, as some of the routes can be wet and muddy. That way, you can explore the area comfortably and make the most of this unique nature reserve.
