Museum Belfort Sluis

In the heart of the charming town of Sluis stands the Belfry, the only belfry in the Netherlands. Dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, this impressive landmark reflects the rich history of the fortified town.

Originally, a belfry was a medieval Flemish bell tower. Its bells were rung to warn of fires, approaching enemy armies or to announce new laws. Over time, the tower became part of the town hall and evolved into a symbol of civic pride, prestige and independence.

A visit to the Belfry is a wonderful addition to a day exploring Sluis, whether you're shopping, discovering its history or relaxing on one of its many terraces.
